What is unique about the Beatplay player?

The Beatplay Player is a FREE streaming music platform. It was created for indie artists to better promote and distribute their music, while allowing fans to more easily discover and share it. We offer listeners numerous ways of discovering, listening and organizing music, with Listening Modes like “Bump” that pull music and videos from popular streaming sites like Soundcloud and Youtube. This is just the beginning. There’s plenty more on the way!

What is a Bumplist?

Bump creates a custom playlist, or bumplist, for you based on any tags, or keywords that you enter into the search field. Your search is then saved as a bump setting so you can access the list again later. Bumplists are updated everyday as new songs are being added and tagged. Click on the “Bump Settings” button above to get an idea of what a good Bump Setting could include.

How do I create a bumplist?

To create a Bumplist, click on ‘Bump’ in the Mode Selector (Big Knob), or click the “B” in the star. Once clicked, enter your tags into the search field. Click on the “Bump Settings” button above to get an idea of what a good Bump Setting should include.

How do I edit/delete a bumplist?

To edit a bumplist, enter Bump Mode, and click the radio button at the top right corner called ‘Set Mode.’ This will pop up some extra icons next to each Bump Setting. To delete a bump setting, click on the red “X.” You can also change the vtags for your bump list and edit your API settings here.

What are tags?

Tags, in this case, are the keywords that you use to describe the music you wish to hear, or that you just heard. In a Bump search, tags help you filter the music that shows up in your bumplist. You can also tag songs that you hear so that they are easier to find in bump searches. Click on the “Music Tags” button above to get an idea of what a good music tag should include.

How do I tag music?

To place a tag click on the ‘Tag’ button in the top bar. Once clicked, enter the tag/s that you want to associate with the song and it will be saved. When entering multiple tags, make sure to separate them with commas. Click on the “Music Tags” button above to get an idea of what a good music tag should include. This option is currently only available for music uploaded directly to Beat-Play.

What is a Playlist?

A playlist is a list of songs that you organize to listen to later, or to share with friends.

How do I create a playlist?

There are two ways to create a playlist:

1. press the ‘+’ button

a.  then select ‘create playlist’ or add a song to an existing playlist.

2. Once the mode selector knob is turned to ‘playlist’ mode

a.  add the name of your new playlist into the text field and click the ‘add new’ button.

How do I edit/delete playlists?

This step is similar to editing/deleting ‘bumplists’. Look torward the top right portion of the playlist dropdown and click on the ‘Set Mode’ radio button. This will pop up some extra icons next to each Playlist name. To delete a playlist, click on the red “X.” You can also rename a playlist in Set Mode.

What are these ‘b’ and ‘p’ looking things?

These buttons allow you to express if you like a song or not. The ‘b’ is an up rating, and the ‘p’ is a down rating. Think of them as thumbs up and thumbs down. These options are currently only available for artists that have uploaded their music directly to the Beatplay Player.

How do I search for music?

To search for a specific song, click on the magnifying glass icon in the top bar, and type your search criteria in the toolbar that pops up. You can also select which database/s you want your results to be pulled from.

How do I upload music?

If you are signed up as an artist, you can upload your music through your profile. Your profile is accessible in the player by clicking the “eye” icon at the top left corner of Beat-play Player. When uploading your music or video, make sure to add important information and tags along with it, i.e. song, artist, locations, descriptions, etc. This information will be accessible to your fans so choose the information wisely. Click on the “Music Tags” button above to get an idea of what a good music tag should include.

How do I edit my profile?

Why should I put my music on the Beatplay player?

Along with the FREE promotional and distributional advantages, uploading your music as an artist at this stage is a good idea because in the near future, we will be unrolling features that allow independent artists to monetize their music through Beat-Play. We will include things like Music and Merch stores, Music License Stores/Auctions, an ad model that gives artists full control over their own ad space, and lets them license it directly to advertisers, and a lot more. The sooner you upload your music to Beat-Play, the sooner you can start racking up the statistics that will make you more appealing to advertisers. Beat-Play will only charge 5.5% of any revenue an artist brings in through the service, and it is still totally free until a sale is made. This percentage will NEVER go up. Beat-Play is a service for independent artists, by independent artists. We need to stick together.

Beat-Play is also very useful for artists who want to bring their whole online presence onto one platform that is compatible with other services like Facebook, Youtube and Soundcloud. With music spread out all over the place online, it makes it harder for fans to find and organize it. If enough independent artists choose one platform like Beat-Play as their primary home for their music, it will make it easier for fans to find and share music, giving them only one place to go to find all the music they could want. This also lets artists track all of their statistics in one place, which, when Beat-Play introduces its innovative, unobtrusive ad model, will become very valuable to artists, who can sell their ad space to interested advertisers. This could even render piracy irrelevant one day. We’re not quire there yet, but for now, there are at least some steps to take in that direction. Beat-Play, as is, offers a great start.
